Buying a home can be a time of great happiness but also can bring an element of stress once escrow is opened. One thing to remember when you encounter occasional highs and lows is that you CAN control how you respond to stress. There are a few proven techniques that you can apply to not only the home buying process but all potential stressful situations. Here is a short list I have compiled based on my own personal experience.
Remember to breathe – no matter what the difficulty is, remembering to take deep cleansing breaths is a great way to slow down your body and bring yourself back to the present moment. It is natural for us to hold our breath during stressful times but when we take deep breaths we are returning our body back to its relaxed state.
Remind yourself that everything happens for a good reason – No matter what the situation, our attitude about it is key to feeling good. For instance, if another buyer submitted an offer before you did on a home you REALLY wanted, remember there is something even better for you around the corner and everything is happening as it should be.
Count your blessings – when stress begins to creep up in our lives, make a list of all of the things you have to be thankful for. It is difficult to be stressed when you can reflect on the good in your life and it helps to provide a good perspective shift.
These are just a few suggestions to help make the home buying process a little easier. Of course, finding a great agent who can help remind you of the above as you are walking through them doesn’t hurt.
